To defend Colombia's "scandal-tainted government before a skeptical [U.S.] Congress," and to "revive an important trade deal and maintain a strong military aid package," the administration of President Alvaro Uribe has hired a Democratic Party-associated U.S. lobbying firm, for $40,000 a month. The Glover Park Group firm's "founders include former Clinton White House spokesman Joe Lockhart." Neither the firm nor the Colombian government would comment on the contract. Uribe met with President Bush and "more than a dozen Democrats" on May 2. Congressional Democrats are "refusing to ratify" a U.S.-Colombia free trade deal, due to labor and human rights concerns. Uribe "has been dogged by accusations that close political allies backed and benefited from the murderous right-wing militias" in Colombia. "Eight pro-government lawmakers have already been arrested." Last month, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D.-Vt.) "froze $55 million in aid to Colombia's military over concerns about its human rights record."

Joe Lockhart's Insider Job
EXCERPT:

Joe Lockhart will take over as White House press secretary next month. (Frank Johnston-The Washington Post)

On the sixth night of the Monica Lewinsky scandal, Joe Lockhart hit the phones.

The Dallas Morning News had just touted a possible White House witness to an encounter between the president and the intern, and Lockhart was harassing the networks that picked it up. He called "Nightline," which reported the administration's denial before signing off. He called CNN reporter John King after the report was mentioned on "Larry King Live."

"The story is a piece of [excrement]," Lockhart declared. "Your network is putting it on the air. You can't just pin it on the Dallas Morning News. Your credibility is at stake."

Glover Park ripoff
EXCERPT:
Amy Phee is using her position as a former employee of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research to do so as well. (Isn't Greenberg Quinlan Rosner GOOD friends w/Rahm Emanuel?)........cal

Core to the credibility of this poll is that the two firms that did it come from opposite sides of the aisle. Public Opinion Strategies is a right-wing polling outfit and clearly unethical in their business work. They will and should suffer for their lack of ethics around the data they put out. Still, it's Glover Park that enables Senator Stevens and Verizon in this tactic by allowing them to pay for the bipartisanship dishonesty they need to pull off this PR strategy.

Rahm Emanuel and Greenberg (Free rent) oh yeah and BP advisor
EXCERPT:
Emanuel lived for five years rent-free in an apartment owned by Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., and her husband, Stanley Greenberg, whose consulting firm was a prime architect in BP's efforts to recast itself as a "green" corporation and recipient of hundreds of thousands of dollars awarded through a committee chaired by Emanuel.

Greenberg research helped reposition BP as a "green company"

The Greenberg Quinlan Rosner consulting firm's website details a case study for client BP in which the firm "helped BP plan and evaluate its successful re-branding campaign, focusing the company's branding on energy solutions, including the development of solar and other renewable energy sources."
